Tea culture
The meaning of tea in Sri Lanka is shown by the fact that the tea still holds the country's ancient name (Ceylon). Ceylon is traditionally prepared and is usually not sweetened or modified with milk.
The ordinary rural population can seldom afford this specialty and therefore seldom drink Ceylon tea. For this reason, ginger tea has established in Sri Lanka. Here, a piece of ginger of max. thickness of 1 cm is peeled and brewed in a cup of boiling water for 5 minutes. This tea can be flavoured with honey and a little bit lemon.
